 Lance Daniels MSW, is a certified yoga teacher, and is employed in Monroe County as a social worker serving clients in Pike, Monroe, and Carbon counties. He has been affiliated with the Gurukulam for many years having met Sri Swami Dayananda Saraswati in Salt Lake City in 1981. Currently, Lance assists at the Gurukulam in a variety of capacities which include teaching yoga and children's classes.

   Prior to his involvement with the Gurukulam, Lance had worked as an artist in partnership with Jim Piercey. He had also spent many hours as a volunteer for The Hunger Project, est, Werner Erhard & Associates, and volunteered as the President of the Salt Lake Food Coop for five years.

   Lance has been teaching Yoga since 1982. He initially received training and was certified to teach through Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres International in 1983. He attended SYVC's Advanced Teachers Training course in 1985 and continued to teach and take classes from other teachers. In the late eighties, he was first exposed to Iyengar style Yoga in Salt Lake City through classes and workshops by Victoria Mink Gill, David Riley, and Olivia Mason. He has also received private instruction on several occasions from Ramanand Patel. Currently Lance is pursuing certification in the Iyengar method through the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Greater New York City with Mary Dunn.

   Lance met Sri Swami Dayananda Saraswati in Salt Lake City in 1981, where Swamiji was giving public talks. He helped raise funds to sponsor Swamiji's next visit. Later in 1986, Lance was accepted into the three year course at the Gurukulam. Lance arrived six months late into the course in July 1987, and stayed on as a work study student until the end of the course. He returned to Salt Lake City iat Swamiji's suggestion and completed an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts (Ceramics). He received the Masters degree in Social Work from University of Pennsylvania in 1995, and is currently practicing Social Work as a Behavioral Therapist in the area near the Gurukulam. His work is counseling families and their children. He continues to teach and practice yoga at the Gurukulam.

   For the Children's Programs at the Gurukulam, Lance has functioned as an organizer and teacher, purchasing supplies for and teaching classes in puja, Yoga, drama, art, and recreational activities; a volunteer coordinator, arranging for other teachers and counselors participation; a logistics coordinator, arranging schedules, field trips, picnics and outings; the snack master, shopping for and preparing snacks for the children; campfire coordinator; and has had some experience doing conflict mediation and caring for children with special needs.
